A Call to Prayer Amidst the Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions

Dear Members and Friends of the Reformed Church of Pakistan,

In the aftermath of the tragic attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 24, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepalese citizen, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated significantly. At midnight between May 6 and 7, 2025, Indian forces launched airstrikes on five locations across Pakistan, targeting Bahawalpur, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, and Muridke. At least 26 civilians were killed, including women and children, and 46 others were injured. Another 38 individuals were reportedly wounded by the strikes, and five additional people were killed during exchanges of fire across the border later that day.

In response, Pakistan’s military launched missile strikes, reportedly destroying an Indian brigade headquarters and a military post in the Dudhnial sector along the Line of Control. The Pakistan Air Force also confirmed the downing of three Indian aircraft. Indian police and medics confirmed that at least seven civilians were killed and 30 others wounded by retaliatory Pakistani firing and shelling overnight.

As the situation continues to unfold, authorities—including Rescue 1122, district administrations, and civil defense departments—have been placed on high alert in anticipation of further escalation. On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Chief Minister of Punjab declared a state of emergency throughout the province and ordered the closure of all educational institutions.

During these challenging and uncertain times, I urge you to pray for the families of the victims, for healing for the injured, and for all those affected by these attacks. Let us also pray that God grants wisdom to the leaders of both nations, guiding them toward reconciliation and the prevention of further violence.

May God’s mercy and peace surround us all.

In Christ Who Unites Us,
